Children need to have direct experience with the world in order to make sense of and learn about it. Have you ever thought about all the things children learn after they are born? They learn how to sit up, walk, talk, run and how to use their hands. They learn what things are, their names and how they work. They learn about people and the world. Good toys help them learn all of these things. Toys encourage children to use their imagination and allow them to gain coordination. As they play with a toy, they develop a sense of accomplishment and confidence when they complete a task, like matching colors, sorting sizes and figuring out shapes. “Look, mommy and daddy, I can do this!”
