History
The Angus breed was developed, like so many others, in Scotland. Aberdeen and Angus Counties were home to several outstanding breeders and farmers who understood early on that selective breeding could improve the quality of a herd. It didnt take long before the first Angus herd was transported to Kansas in 1873. Because of the difficult environment in which they were bred and raised, the cattle survived a rough winter and actually gained weight, so the qualities of the breed were immediately evident. 1200 more Angus cattle were imported, and by 1883, only ten years after the first one crossed the ocean, the American Aberdeen-Angus Breeders Association was formed.
